Matamanoa Island Resort
Mamanuca Islands, Fiji
One island – one resort, a true sense of escapism.
Fiji has always captivated me and I love exploring the many islands this idyllic holiday paradise has to offer.
Located in Fiji’s Mamanuca Island group, off the western coast of Viti Levu, is the intimate, adults only, Matamanoa Island Resort. With secluded beaches, private plunge pools and spectacular sunsets, Matamanoa Island Resort offers the true sense of escapism.
Getting here is easy from Port Denarau, with 3 options by sea including a scheduled high-speed catamaran or a private water-taxi or speedboat transfer. Because I wanted to maximise every minute at Matamanoa I opted to jump into a helicopter and landed 7 minutes later. No time wasted, I was ready to sip my first cocktail and submerge into my luxury beach holiday.
Although this is a small island, Matamanoa is the only resort on the island, offering exclusivity to the white sandy beaches and swaying palms. A picture postcard that is all yours!

There are just 47 rooms at the resort, with 3 large room types available; Oceanfront Pool Villas, Beachfront Pool Bures and Garden Resort rooms. All Villas and Bures have their own private plunge pool, outdoor shower and thatched gazebo. Two words describe Matamanoa’s accommodation and that is “luxuriously spacious”.
Dining at Matamanoa Island Resort offers a lovely mixture of Fijian and International flavours. The evening menu is changed daily which is a treat and there’s a full American breakfast, cooked to order (complimentary with all bookings).
Matamanoa Island Resort is nothing short of Fiji bliss. It’s a place to rest, dream and soak up the stunning vistas of blue sea, white sand, and palm tree covered coastline. We divided our time between swimming in the resort’s eye dropping infinity pool, going on daily guided snorkelling trips, having the odd massage at the Spa and sipping a cocktail at the bar as we watched the most incredible sunsets.
Overall, this is a lovely little island, priced well and it’s a great combination if you feel like adding it with some nights at a bigger resort in Denarau.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Daily snorkelling trips with experienced Fijian snorkel guides. Never the same spot as the Matamanoa coral reefs are a marine sanctuary. So many fish of beautiful bright colours swimming in the clearest blue water, just magic.
- The evening, when everyone puts on their summer outfits, the band starts to play and it feels so special.
- Did I mention the sunsets, just WOW!
