Blue Lagoon Cruises Fiji
4-night Wander Cruise
Been to Fiji? How about exploring the remote beauty of the Yasawa Islands?
I’ve spent a lot of time over the years in Fiji, from popular Denarau to a vast range of resorts in the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands. I’ve even taken a flight to Fiji’s far north to Vanua Levu (this was a personal dream of mine) and experienced some of the best and unique resort offerings that many travellers are not aware of.
Recently, I had the opportunity to go on a 4-night Blue Lagoon Cruise which sailed to the most beautiful and striking islands amongst the Yasawa Islands.
This is a small ship experience that has up to 64 passengers on board and get this, a crew of 30! That’s nearly a 2:1 ratio which translates to the very best of Fijian service, hospitality and smiles. This is not BIG ship cruising, rather an intimate journey through an untouched, tropical haven.
With a maximum of 4 hours cruising a day there is plenty of time to step ashore and explore private palm-fringed beaches, sacred caves, go for a hike, swim in warm tropical water, snorkel, dive, meet local Yasawan villagers and taste traditional Fijian food.
On offer are 7, 4 or 3 night cruises with transfers to the Blue Lagoon Cruise ship from Port Denarau.
We opted for the 4-night Wander Cruise that takes you up to the Yasawa Islands. Now seriously, this area is all what you see in glossy travel magazines, plus more! It’s just soooo tranquil and beautiful. The absolute jewel in the crown for Fiji.
Our 4-night Wander Cruise started from the moment we were picked up by our transfer boat at Port Denarau. As soon as we hopped onboard, we were totally spoilt by the friendly Fijian staff. The bubbles and beer flowed (of course non-alchoholic options are available) and our appetites were more than satisfied with the substantial array of nibbles on offer. The transfer trip itself was a highlight and a tantalising starter for what we were about to experience over the next 4 days.
Boarding the Blue Lagoon Cruise ship itself was a magical experience. Met by the Blue Lagoon family we were greeted with smiles, music and a sense of fun and genuine pleasure that radiated the entire time from our Fijian hosts.
After we were briefed on the ship formalities we were taken to our room. Wow. I wasn’t expecting the size or the quality to be honest. The luxurious touches were perfect and I was very happy to make this home for 4 nights.
You can see the 4-night Wander Cruise itinerary that we did below. What struck me most about our cruise was that we were off ship more than we were on ship. This gave us the opportunity to really explore and authentically experience these idyllic islands and the people who live here.
Every night onboard I would read the ship’s plans for the next day with great excitement. Like an exquisite cocktail, the blend of activities and relaxation was perfectly balanced. To be honest, it is up to you to decide how busy or how relaxed you want your day to be. We spent hours in the gloriously clear turquoise waters, swimming and snorkelling and then mixing it up with some great excursions (all part of the Wander Cruise cost). If however, you should want a sneaky chill out in your cabin or swim in the on-board pool then the accommodating staff will happily take you back to the ship anytime

The biggest thing for me, after all my years of travelling to Fiji, was the intimacy with the crew and the cultural experience that was offered to us each day of our cruise.
I’ll never forget the school visit, it was a real highlight. The eagerness and delight of the island village children was a joy to witness and to be part of. Twice as rewarding is to know that being on a Blue Lagoon Cruise helps their village as they support and contribute to the Vinaka Fiji – Yasawa Trust Foundation.
I truly came back home feeling loved and totally connected to Fiji. The Fijians have sooo much pure affection to give that you can’t help but leave feeling warm and happy inside. What an absolute wonderful gift they give.
And for us, my husband and I felt thoroughly rested on our return. We felt completely spoilt on our holiday that was filled with fun, laughter, relaxation, and a new cultural awareness that was captivating.
You too can discover the natural beauty of the Yasawa Islands with Blue Lagoon Cruises and experience Fiji at its absolute finest. If you’re feeling inspired, contact me and let me help turn your dream into reality – Sharon.
